Amendments to the Bulgarian Energy Act
The amendments to the Bulgarian Energy Act, which took place on 2 February 2021, release new renewable electricity generation projects (put into operation after 1 January 2021) from the obligation to make contribution to the Electricity System Security Fund.
This Fund was established in 2015 and its aim was to obtain funds to compensate for expenses associated with preferential purchases prices of electricity from renewable sources and other costs for system security and transition to full market liberalization. Currently, all electricity generators are obliged to contribute to the Fund 5% of their income.
The mandatory trade on Bulgarian electricity exchange is extended to all electricity generators with an installed capacity of 500 kW and more (so far 1 MW).
